THE ROAD TRAFFIC ACT!!!!!!!!!!

Post  Guest on Tue Aug 25, 2009 10:58 pm

Traffic offences, it's the hottest topic for drivers like us.

With traffic police's increased vigilance on enforcing the rules, we have a lot more stress in our midst these days.

Here's my public service to U, my fellow drivers; the list of no-no and the consequences when U are caught flouting the RULES!!!

Safe driving should be the order of the day, unless is a Court Order that U seek.

"Speeding:
Exceeding 1-20km/h = $130 + 4 demerit pts
Exceeding 21-30km/h = $150 + 6 demerit pts
Exceeding 31-40km/h = $170 + 8 demerit pts
Exceeding 41-50km/h = 12 demerit pts + COURT
Exceeding 51-60km/h = 18 demerit pts + COURT
Exceeding >61km/h = 24 demerit pts + COURT

"Careless driving = Fine + 6 demerit pts
-$150 for light veh, $180 for heavy veh.

"Inconsiderate driving = $170 + 9 demerit pts

"Reckless/Dangerous driving = 24 demerit pts + COURT

"Illegal Racing = Vehicle seized for investigation purposes + COURT

"Fail to put seat belt = $120 + 3 demerit pts

"Crossing double white lines = $130 + 4 demerit pts

"Phone and Drive = COURT + 12 demerit pts + phone seized for investigation purpose [U r GUILTY as long as U hold the phone in one hand while veh is in motion. It DOES NOT MATTER if U r on speaker mode or handset. THE MAIN THING IS NOT TO HOLD ON TO THE PHONE WHILE VEH IS MOVING].

"Drink and Drive = COURT

"Making an unauthorised U-Turn = $70

"Fail to signal when changing lanes = $70 for light veh / $100 for heavy veh

"Driving without headlights on after 7pm = $30

"No number plate or using unapproved type of plate, as well as obstructed or improper display of number plate = $70

HOW THE DEMERIT POINT SYSTEM WORKS:

Let's say U have 0 points BEFORE jan 1, 2008, but landed URSELF with 3 demerit pts ON jan 1, 2008. If accumulate no other points for ONE year, UR 3 points will be erased on jan 1, 2009 BUT if U commit ANOTHER offence with demerit points, UR FIRST 3 points will be extended to jan 1, 2010.

ATTENTION PLS

More traffic rules info for all bros, pls read carefully and u will find urself breaking the mention rules almost EVERYDAY.
For the sake of ur pocket, licence and safety of other road users PLS READ.

There are 8 categories of offenses that carry demerit points. They carry 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 12, 18 & 24 demerit points according to the severity of offences.

As a guideline, there should be no (or little) demerit point if your offence does not cause significant danger or harm to yours or other motorists' lives.

0 Demerit Points but with fines

* Not displaying P-Plate for drivers on probation for the first time. ($120)
* Most parking offences (except for parking along zig-zag lines etc)
* Failure to give signal ($70)
* Tinted windows/helmet visors not meeting LTA regulations of allowing 70% light transmittance on the front and 30% an the rear.
* Illegal modifications
* Faulty lights
* Driving inside bus-lane during prohibited timings ($130)
* Emission of excessive smoke (up to $150)
* Not displaying a valid or displaying a tampered OPC coupon/license (for off-peak-cars) when driving during peak hours

An offender can be fined up to $10,000 for using an OPC without displaying a valid day licence. For tampering with the day licence, the penalty is a fine not exceeding $20,000 or imprisonment not exceeding 12 months or both.
About one-third of those convicted were found to have tampered with the licences - a more serious offence.

The punishment is a fine of up to $10,000 for the first offence. Subsequent convictions carry fines of up to $20,000, a maximum jail term of 12 months, or both.

They also face an additional charge of driving without a valid supplementary licence, which carries a maximum fine of $5,000 for first-time offenders.
On average, the tamperers were fined $8,000 - equivalent to almost half their tax savings. Those who drive without a supplementary licence or an invalid one face fines of up to $5,000, which can double for repeat offenders.
